PROJECT NO. 01
LUMINARIES
This is a body of work in which I photographed para-athletes and hand-embroidered the images with metallic thread onto photographic paper.
Rooted in a personal connection to the disabled community through my son, who was born with a disability, this project underscores my belief in the transformative power of representation and the significance of highlighting diverse perspectives.
By embroidering each photograph, I add a tactile element that showcases the uniqueness and individuality of each athlete, while also highlighting the dedication that goes into their accomplishments and goals. The metal thread is used to suggest a sense of radiance and light.
My hope is that through this project, I can challenge ableist attitudes and be part of a movement that inspires greater understanding, empathy, and inclusion for all individuals, ultimately celebrating diversity.
